Born in 1987, double bassist Emmanuel Forster discovered jazz at the Marciac college at the age of 10. The enthusiasm of this discovery with Jean Pierre Peyrebelle and Pierre Boussaguet led him to the Toulouse Conservatory, from which he graduated in 2006. Following a meeting with his first mentor Heyn Van de Geyn, he studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (NL), then at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, where he studied alongside Riccardo Del Fra, Hervé Sellin and Glenn Ferris.
Among the artists invited during his studies, he crossed paths with Jeff Ballard, with whom he had the honor of performing several times in Toulouse during the Drums Summit festival.
After completing his studies, Emmanuel was invited by Hervé Sellin to be part of the recording of his album Passerelles (October 2017) which will be played in many festivals and clubs in France and Europe. At this time Emmanuel begins a career as a sideman, which takes him to travel Europe and the Middle East, notably alongside the Palestinian pianist Faraj Sulejman (Middle-East Rock Jazz) and Hervé Sellin (Jazz and Classical music).
At the end of 2017, Emmanuel crossed paths with drummer Ali Jackson in a jam session, who invited him to become the double bass player of his European trio. It was a decisive encounter, Emmanuel deepened with this new mentor the historical knowledge of the roots of jazz, the requirement of the very high artistic level, and the importance of artistic affiliation with this musician who is part of the history of jazz and has rubbed shoulders with all the greatest of this music. This trio will play in several festivals in France and Europe (Concert "Ali Jackson presents French jazz future", at the Astrada during the Marciac festival, broadcast on France Musique, Jazz sur son 31, Carpathian space festival in Ukraine...). Since then, he has evolved in very diverse musical styles gravitating around jazz music: American and Traditional, Pop-Jazz, creations, current music...
As a Sideman, he is currently the double bassist of the Jeremy Rollando quartet (album la montgolfière 2023, world music) and a member of the Heo trio of the Korean pianist Daeuk Heo, (contemporary jazz) with whom he regularly tours Asia.
He has notably been heard playing alongside Ali Jackson, Hervé Sellin, Glenn Ferris, David Linx, Laurent De Wilde, MedericCollignon, RomainPilon, DanielHumair, DaveLiebman, JeffBallard, FarajSuleiman, HabibHana, JulienAlour, Samuel Strouk, Anne Sila, Leo Jasseff, Benjamin and Jean Dousteyssier, Sebastien Giniaux, Jean Luc Amestoy, Pascal and Jeremy Rollando, Thibaud Dufoy, Baptiste de Chabaneix, Nicolas Gardel...
At the same time, inspired by his first mentor, the great pedagogue Heyn Van de Geyn, Emmanuel taught at the Toulouse Jean Jaurès University for 5 years. He has given private lessons and has been involved in various amateur practice courses since he was 21. Particularly at the "jazz au vert" course alongside Tonton Salut and David Pautric. He also occasionally works at the Toulouse Music'halle school.
Since 2023, with all his experiences, he has created the Emmanuel Forster Trio "tribute to Ray Brown" alongside his long-time accomplice: the pianist Thibaud Dufoy. He is freeing himself, anchored in the traditional jazz of his first loves.
That same year also saw the birth of the trio Kids Are Pretty People, a collective trio for which he co-wrote and co-directed the musical and strategic direction with Gregoire Aguilar and Joris Lucchese. This music
allows him to express himself in the register of more contemporary, pop, European music.
